More About Pukka Junk Creative
It all started in 2002 just before I retired from business, and I wanted to get back into art and making. It was more than 50 years since I had come out of art school. Wanting to engage my brain and hands into making . I enrolled onto a silversmithing course and after a couple of years I was making silver jewellery , from old and discarded silver I purchased from car boots and auctions. I would test the silver, melt it down and make items to order. I ceased that because the price of silver went to high for me to work as a recycler and give a quality product to my customers at a sensible price.
It was when looking through an old photo album seeing my kids in there home made leather moccasins and my daughter with her leather bag made me think. I loved working in leather, and with our throw away society, and built in obsolescence, what could I do!
Visiting the coast one day, we got into a big traffic jam, so we took a back road avoiding the North Norfolk coast. Along that road we drove passed a very larg ‘skip’ out side a house that looked as though it was being renovated. In that skip was a large leather sofa. Dee my wife said’ there you go, what do you think you can make with that’ pointing at the sofa. I knocked at the house and the owners thought I was mad wanting the sofa. I loaded it into our van (my wife is a potter) and that’s how it all started. Every time I skip dive the house owner will always get the first bag from that sofa free. I make many more recycled items but the bags are my passion
